Application
This unit of competency covers the skills and knowledge required for the supply and replacement of heel blocks using a variety of methods.
Discretion, initiative and judgement must be demonstrated on the job in own work, either individually or in a team environment
Work may be conducted in small to large scale enterprises and may involve individual and team activities. Work is performed within defined procedures under direct supervision.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Prepare to fit new heel block |

Interpret work order and remove old heel block without damage to shoe |

Select appropriate new heel block and cover materials |

Cut pattern for new heel block |

Cover heel block, matching leather or covering material to the original colour and design of the shoe |

Prepare the seat to provide a surface for attachment and insert a new seat piece |

Prepare heel block and top piece |

Prepare new heel block |

Select suitable commercially available top piece, if appropriate, or select appropriate top piece material, mark out and cut out to fit heel block |

Scour surface of the top piece material and heel block, if appropriate, using appropriate hand or machine operations to ensure even finish |

Check the fit between the top piece and the heel block and make adjustments, as appropriate |

Finish heel |

Replace heel block and top piece |

Check quality of securing and make adjustment, as required |

Trim back top piece to conform to heel block |

Finish off heel and top piece, as required, including staining and dying to match as close as possible original shoe colour and design |

Pack, label and store repaired shoes and record outcomes |
