Application

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work effectively with others in the arts and health industry, including developing current industry skills and knowledge, managing agreements and relationships, and completing work tasks effectively.

The unit applies to those who, as arts and health practitioners, liaise with a variety of participants, such as carers and families in different creative arts and health contexts and with health professionals for the purpose of delivering arts and health services and programs.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Develop current skills and knowledge

1.1 Researches arts and health industry trends and effects of trends on own work practices using required sources of information

1.2 Identify principles and techniques of arts and health required for own practice and develop strategies to implement them into own work

1.3 Liaise with required personnel to identify learning opportunities to incorporate trends and emergent technologies in own work practice

1.4 Access identified learning opportunities to improve own work practices

2. Manage agreements and relationships with key stakeholders

2.1 Determine work and related issues within scope of own role and responsibilities according to regulatory requirements and organisational procedures

2.2 Identify and establish effective relationships with key stakeholders

2.3 Confirm and formally document agreements with required personnel according to organisational policies and procedures

2.4 Maintain agreed relationships through regular contact and effective communication according to organisational policies and procedures

3. Complete work tasks effectively

3.1 Prioritise work tasks and establish schedule with required personnel according to organisational policies and procedures

3.2 Identify and plan for factors that affect schedule of work tasks

3.3 Undertake work according to organisational policies and procedures and regulatory requirements

3.4 Seek specialist advice on matters outside scope of own role

3.5 Seek and respond to feedback on own work performance from required personnel

Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:

  • participate in workplace arts and health activities on at least three different occasions, at least one of which must involve teamwork that demonstrates consultation with others to achieve team goals.

In the course of the above, the candidate must:

  • apply information about arts and health industry trends and emergent technologies
  • negotiate a formal agreement
  • prioritise and complete the sequence of work.

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of:

  • organisational and legislative requirements and codes of practice relating to own role in the arts and health industry, including:
  • workplace health and safety
  • ethical work practices
  • safe industry practice
  • basic arts and health industry information
  • organisational policies and procedures relating to own role in the arts and health industry, including:
  • working within duty of care and participant safety requirements
  • prioritising work tasks and establishing required timeframes
  • required documentation for agreements
  • professional networking and communication strategies
  • principles underpinning participant-centred health care, including dignity of risk principles
  • key features of arts and health industry workplace practice, including:
  • required behaviour and ethics
  • nature, role and functions of unions and employer associations
  • rights and responsibilities of employers, employees and contractors, including awards and conditions of own employment
  • legal issues that affect negotiations and contracts
  • environmental obligations
  • duty of care
  • key features of a contract and/or agreement, including:
  • basic structure
  • reasonable terms and conditions
  • relationships between different arts and health industry sectors
  • terminology associated with arts and health industry
  • current and emerging technologies used in arts and health industry.

Assessment Conditions

Skills in this unit must be demonstrated in a workplace or simulated environment where the conditions are typical of those in a working environment in this industry.

This includes access to:

  • sources of arts and health industry information
  • personnel with whom to interact regarding contractual arrangements and learning opportunities
  • template agreements and/or contracts.

Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational education and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
