Release 1.  This is the first release of this unit of competency in the TLI Transport and Logistics Training Package.

Application

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to prepare for environmentally sustainable work practices.

It includes identifying workplace environmentally sustainable information and identifying environmentally sustainable work practices and having an awareness of the applicable legislation, national standards, industry procedures and work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) requirements influencing work practices.

An understanding of the importance of integrating the developed strategies, systems and plans into personnel work practices will be developed.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Identify environmentally sustainable work practices  

2.1 

Key workplace documents are revisited and understanding from the research and discussions with others is used to identify how the organisation is supporting environmental sustainability

Reasons for environmental sustainability action are identified

Environmentally sustainable work tasks are added to the workplace practices list

Environmentally sustainable work practices are identified within the current work role and plans for implementing these practices are discussed with appropriate personnel

Assessment requirements

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include:

  • communication skills, including effective listening, asking questions and sharing a point of view
  • comprehend information and transfer to job role
  • developing a basic understanding of key workplace documents associated with environmental sustainability, including work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) standards
  • identifying environmentally sustainable work practices
  • identifying reasons for environmentally sustainable documentation and work practices
  • integrating environmentally sustainable work practices in job role
  • reading and interpreting key workplace documents related to environmental sustainability and job role.

Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

  • basic research skills relating to:
  • job role
  • life cycle of products: re-new, re-use and recycle
  • workplace/site
  • basic understanding of legislation, national standards and data
  • key aspects of environmentally sustainable practices
  • key workplace documents
  • principles of working with others
  • work preparation techniques.

Assessment Conditions

Assessors must hold credentials specified within the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must satisfy the Principles of Assessment and Rules of Evidence and all regulatory requirements included within the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must occur in workplace operational situations where it is appropriate to do so; where this is not appropriate, assessment must occur in simulated workplace operational situations that replicate workplace conditions.

Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate.

Resources for assessment must include access to:

  • a range of relevant exercises, case studies and/or simulations
  • relevant and appropriate materials, tools, equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) currently used in industry
  • applicable documentation, including legislation, regulations, codes of practice, workplace procedures and operation manuals
