Release 1.  This is the first release of this unit of competency in the TLI Transport and Logistics Training Package.

Application

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to implement and monitor logistics planning and processes.

It includes planning an efficient logistics operation, developing a contingency management strategy, producing operational schedules, and monitoring and coordinating systems for logistics operations.

The unit generally applies to those who provide leadership of others individually or in teams.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Plan efficient logistics operations 

1.1 

Relevant legislation, codes and workplace policies and procedures for logistics operations are identified

Specifications and requirements for task outcomes are obtained, interpreted, clarified, as required, and applied to the development of a work plan

Preliminary schedules are matched against operational capacity and capability of available transport systems, equipment and staff

1.4 

Strategies to address identified deficiencies in operational capability and availability are undertaken in accordance with workplace procedures

Develop contingency management strategies 

2.1 

Typical problems that may arise with logistics operations are identified and strategies for dealing with them are determined

Contingency management strategies for identified issues/incidents are established and evaluated

Produce operation schedules for logistics

Resources are arranged in association with relevant stakeholders to meet the operational schedules, policies and procedures

Assessment requirements

Modification History

Release 1.  This is the first release of this unit of competency in the TLI Transport and Logistics Training Package.

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include:

  • applying relevant legislation, codes and workplace policies and procedures
  • completing relevant documentation
  • developing and documenting contingency plans as part of the planning process
  • identifying and solving problems
  • modifying activities depending on operational contingencies, risk situations and environments
  • planning and organising logistics operations
  • reading, interpreting and following transport schedules, regulatory requirements, stakeholder instructions, and workplace policies and procedures
  • working collaboratively with stakeholders.

Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

  • contingency strategies
  • principles of supply chain management
  • relevant legislation for planning, implementing and monitoring logistics
  • relevant workplace policies and procedures for scheduling and resource requirements
  • strategies to address identified deficiencies in operational capability.

Assessment Conditions

Assessors must hold credentials specified within the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must satisfy the Principles of Assessment and Rules of Evidence and all regulatory requirements included within the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must occur in workplace operational situations where it is appropriate to do so; where this is not appropriate, assessment must occur in simulated workplace operational situations that replicate workplace conditions.

Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate.

Resources for assessment must include access to:

  • a range of relevant exercises, case studies and/or simulations
  • relevant and appropriate materials, tools, equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) currently used in industry
  • applicable documentation, including legislation, regulations, codes of practice, workplace procedures and operation manuals.
