Application

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to complete inspections, tests and routine non-specialist repairs and maintenance of inflatable aquatic equipment. It requires the ability to assist with the assembling, dismantling and routine cleaning of the equipment.

This unit applies to aquatic facilities including inflatable water parks, and those that have inflatable water slides and other aquatic-based play structures.

It can apply to technical operators, lifeguards and other individuals working at different levels of responsibility. All would be guided by operational specifications instructions, and organisational inspection and maintenance schedules and procedures.

The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State or Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Complete periodic inspections of inflatable aquatic equipment.

1.1. Complete periodic and pre-opening inspections of inflatable aquatic equipment according to operational specifications and organisational schedules and procedures.

1.2. Complete required organisational reports to confirm safety and operational effectiveness of inflatable aquatic equipment.

1.3. Identify, record and promptly report missing parts and faulty or damaged inflatable aquatic equipment to appropriate personnel for further action.

2. Test inflatable aquatic equipment.

2.1. Test inflatable aquatic equipment according to operational specifications and organisational schedules and procedures.

2.2. Record accurate test data according to organisational procedures and regulatory requirements.

2.3. Evaluate test data to confirm inflatable aquatic equipment is fit for purpose.

2.4. Identify and promptly report test irregularities and substandard performance to appropriate personnel for corrective action.

3. Maintain and store inflatable aquatic equipment.

3.1. Complete minor non-specialist repairs and maintenance to inflatable aquatic equipment according to operational specifications and organisational safety practices.

3.2. Report other required repairs outside scope of skills and responsibility according to organisational procedures.

3.3. Assemble and dismantle inflatable aquatic equipment according to scope of responsibility, operational specifications and organisational safety procedures.

3.4. Store and recover inflatable aquatic equipment and complete pre- and post-storage maintenance according to operational specifications.

3.5. Complete repair and maintenance records according to organisational procedures and regulatory requirements.

Reading skills to:

  • interpret potentially unfamiliar and complex operational specifications for small and large inflatable aquatic equipment.

  • use fundamental sentence structure to complete basic inspection, repair and maintenance forms and reports that require factual information.

Numeracy skills to:

  • extract, interpret, and record sometimes complex numerical data, symbols and abbreviations involving pressure, degrees, volume, percentages and ratios in manufacturer instructions, inspection schedules and record keeping documents
  • interpret, use and record temporal data, including minutes, hours, days and weeks.

Teamwork skills to:

  • pro-actively and cooperatively work within teams to assemble and dismantle inflatable aquatic equipment.

Performance Evidence

Evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit in the context of the job role, and:

  • correctly interpret inspection schedules, and follow operational specifications to complete three periodic routine inspections of inflatable aquatic equipment and complete the following:
  • one test on inflatable aquatic equipment
  • one routine maintenance task for inflatable aquatic equipment
  • one minor non-specialist repair on inflatable aquatic equipment
  • for each of the above activities complete accurate records
  • on one occasion, work in a team to complete one of the following tasks:
  • recover from storage, assemble and clean inflatable aquatic equipment, or
  • dismantle, clean and store inflatable aquatic equipment.

Knowledge Evidence

Demonstrated knowledge required to complete the tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit:

  • organisational procedures for inspecting, testing, repairing and maintaining inflatable aquatic equipment, and for record keeping and reporting
  • an overview of the provisions of relevant state or territory environmental legislation relevant to waste water runoff and pollution
  • an overview of the provisions of the industry guidelines and standard relevant to inflatable aquatic equipment, and how organisations use this to manage operations and maintenance of equipment
  • organisational:
  • role responsibilities, boundaries and reporting lines for:
  • inspecting, testing, repairing and maintaining inflatable aquatic equipment
  • assembling and dismantling equipment
  • work health and safety (WHS) practices for inspecting, testing, repairing and maintaining inflatable aquatic equipment
  • specific to the aquatic venue, location and inflatable aquatic equipment:
  • key operational features of small and large equipment, including single and linked elements
  • periodic inspection schedules, items that must be inspected and record keeping requirements
  • extent of daily inspection requirements prior to venue opening hours

Assessment Conditions

Skills must be demonstrated in an aquatic facility with operational inflatable aquatic equipment.

Assessment must ensure use of:

  • inflatable aquatic equipment
  • testing, repair and maintenance tools, equipment and consumable resources
  • personal protective equipment
  • cleaning agents and associated safety data sheets
  • organisational inspection schedules
  • operational specifications for inspecting, testing, repairing and maintaining
  • template records and reports for inspecting, testing, repairing and maintaining
  • organisational procedures for inspecting, testing, repairing and maintaining, and for record keeping and reporting.

Assessors must satisfy the Standards for Registered Training Organisations requirements for assessors.
