Application

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to supervise and report on conduit inspections.

It includes supervising or managing the inspection and reporting of the condition and features in sewer or stormwater conduits using specialised equipment.

This unit applies to those who supervise or manage work involved in the inspection and reporting of the condition and features in sewer or stormwater conduits using specialised equipment. It is also applicable to people who prepare inspection reports from data supplied by specialised sewer inspection operators. Those undertaking this unit would work autonomously, usually with supervisory responsibilities, while performing complex tasks in a range of contexts.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Determine inspection reporting requirements 

1.1 

Determine the inspection reporting standard and special inspection and reporting requirements of the stakeholders from specifications and instructions

Obtain plans and maps of assets to be inspected and identify relevant asset data

Verify the competence of operators undertaking the inspection according to workplace procedures

Review images, data and reports from inspections

Compile documentation from inspection and check for completeness and accuracy

Label and reference inspection information according to workplace procedures

Review and recognise unsatisfactory images and other non-compliant data and compile non-compliance reports

Identify structural defects and service conditions

Identify and code structural defects, service conditions and other features of the conduit

Assessment requirements

Release 1. This is the first release of this unit of competency in the NWP National Water Training Package.

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and includes:

  • accessing and interpreting details from asset information systems including construction drawings, plans, maps, house service diagrams
  • compiling documentation from inspections and checking for completeness and accuracy
  • identifying and correctly coding all critical defects and/or features of conduits observable in inspection records
  • identifying inspection reporting requirements in specifications
  • labelling and referencing inspection information
  • recognising non-compliant images and data from conduit inspections
  • supervising or managing the inspection and reporting of the condition and features in sewer or stormwater conduits using specialised equipment
  • using data capture systems

Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

  • asset information systems
  • characteristics of gravity and pressurised sewers or stormwater
  • construction and operation of sewerage or stormwater systems
  • data capture, recording and reporting systems
  • design plans for construction
  • features of conduits used in Australia or operating area for sewer or stormwater construction utilising historical data
  • industry inspection reporting code
  • operational plans and maps

Assessment Conditions

Assessors must hold credentials specified within the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must satisfy the Principles of Assessment and Rules of Evidence and all regulatory requirements included within the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must occur in workplace operational situations where it is appropriate to do so; where this is not appropriate, assessment must occur in simulated workplace operational situations that replicate workplace conditions.

Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate.

Resources for assessment must include access to:

  • relevant and appropriate materials, tools, equipment and personal protective equipment currently used in industry
  • applicable documentation including legislation, regulations, codes of practice, workplace procedures and operation manuals.
