Application

This unit describes the skills and knowledge to implement pre-existing sustainability plans. It also includes gaining support, monitoring and measuring the implemented changes and recommending further improvement or modifications. The improvements may be in response to planned or current regulatory requirements or may be related to organisation generated improvement proposals.

This unit applies inside organisations and their value chains.

This unit applies to a manager or technical specialist who has a major responsibility for sustainability as part of a broader work role, or sustainability may be their primary work responsibility. The manager or technical specialist may undertake this alone or as part of a team.

No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

Assessment requirements

Performance Evidence

There must be evidence the candidate has completed the tasks outlined in the elements and performance criteria of this unit, and:

  • implemented, monitored and updated at least 1 sustainability plan, including identifying and negotiating with stakeholders.

Knowledge Evidence

There must be evidence the candidate has knowledge of:

  • methods of determining benefits of sustainability improvement projects
  • causes of resistance and methods of dealing with resistance
  • sources of data
  • data validation techniques
  • techniques to analyse data for trends, aberrations and factors requiring action
  • project planning and monitoring
  • improvement measures
  • AS/NZS ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems or its authorised replacement.

Assessment Conditions

Skills must have been demonstrated in the workplace or in a simulated environment that reflects workplace conditions and contingencies. The following conditions must be met for this unit:

  • use of facilities, equipment and resources, including:
  • sustainability plan.

Assessors must satisfy the NVR/AQTF mandatory competency requirements for assessors.
