Elements and Performance Criteria

Elements

Performance Criteria

Elements describe the essential outcomes.

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element.

1. Define the work area or process to be evaluated

1.1 Identify the boundaries of the process or work area to be evaluated

1.2 Identify all process steps within the boundaries

1.3 Identify the change which occurs at each step

1.4 Define sustainability interactions at each step

2. Determine impacts on sustainability from the work area or process

2.1 Identify organisation’s sustainability goals as they relate to the process or work area

2.2 Identify sustainability sensitivities at each step in the process or work area

2.3 Identify sustainability issues at each step in the process or work area

2.4 Estimate the sustainability impact of sensitivities and issues identified

2.5 Short-list sustainability issues and/or sensitivities with probable high negative impact

3. Recommend changes to reduce negative sustainability impact

3.1 Determine root cause of each short-listed item

3.2 Determine possible solutions to root causes and alternative mitigation strategies

3.3 Estimate resources required for solution and mitigation options

3.4 Rank solution and mitigation options by desirability

3.5 Recommend preferred options in accordance with organisational procedures and protocols

Foundation Skills

This section describes those language, literacy, numeracy and employment skills that are essential to performance but not explicit in the performance criteria.

  • Reading skills to interpret workplace documentation and information about approaches to sustainability
  • Writing skills to communicate familiar and unfamiliar workplace information
  • Oral communication skills to discuss sustainability issues and sensitivities and possible solutions and mitigation strategies with people at different levels of the organisation
  • Numeracy skills to perform calculations using time, quantities, fractions and percentages
  • Learning skills to identify and interpret information about approaches to sustainability.

Other foundation skills essential to performance are explicit in the performance criteria of this unit.

Knowledge Evidence

There must be evidence the candidate has knowledge of:

  • sustainability process mapping
  • process and changes which occur within the process
