Unit of competency

Modification History

Release 1. This is the first release of this unit in the DEF Defence Training Package Release 4.0.

Application

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to work effectively in the simulator maintenance industry, in compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and national operating standards.

It includes determining appropriate work roles, contributing to the planning of activities, working with others and following Health, Safety and the Environment (HSE) procedures.

This unit addresses simulation non-technical skill requirements (mental, social and personal-management abilities) related to teamwork duties of simulation personnel and contributes to safe and effective performance in complex simulation operational environments.

In the context of this unit, simulators are used to replicate land, air, sea and undersea systems to facilitate training and development.

This unit was developed in a Defence environment but may be relevant to others who work in this field.

The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to.

Those undertaking this unit would work independently, or as part of a team, with minimal supervision, while performing complex tasks, including complex problem solving, in a limited range of contexts. They would use discretion and judgement and take responsibility for the quality of their outputs.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Determine appropriate work roles within a simulator maintenance workplace

1.1

Consider work instructions, performance requirements, workplace procedures and Health, Safety and the Environment (HSE) requirements when identifying work roles for each team member

1.2

Make contributions to the team to assist in determining appropriate work roles and responsibilities required to successfully and safely complete work activities

2

Contribute to planning the successful and efficient outcome of a work activity

2.1

Contribute suggestions and information to assist the planning of work activities and to minimise delays to stakeholders

2.2

Make suggestions for improvements to processes and discuss with other team members

2.3

Identify factors affecting the efficient completion of a work task

3

Work with others in the simulation maintenance industry

3.1

Use correct simulator terminology relevant to the simulator type and the context of work being undertaken to communicate with stakeholders

3.2

Provide assistance to team members within scope of own job role, to complete assigned tasks

3.3

Complete work tasks in accordance with relevant simulator workplace procedures, industry rules and regulations

3.4

Operate workplace equipment and technology and in accordance with manufacturer instructions, workplace policies and procedures, and HSE regulations

3.5

Contribute to improving work roles within scope of own job role, with the team and supervisors to improve work practices and procedures

4

Follow HSE procedures within the simulator workplace

4.1

Follow simulator workplace emergency procedures and executed when emergencies occur
