This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to determine modifications to security equipment and systems to meet changed operational requirements. It requires the ability to determine the modification capability and feasibility for the type of equipment and system and accurately document system schematics, configuration and specifications showing detailed modifications. This unit may form part of the licensing requirements for persons responsible for modifying security systems in those states and territories where these are regulated activities. |

1.1 Applicable provisions of legislative and organisational requirements relevant to assignment instructions are identified and complied with. 1.2 Assignment instructions are obtained, reviewed and client objectives confirmed. 1.3 Normal operational functions and performance parameters of security equipment and system are confirmed against specifications. 1.4 Current operational functions and capabilities of security equipment and system are confirmed based on an assessment of accurate and reliable information. 1.5 Historical information and operational data of security equipment and system is obtained and reviewed. 1.6 Specifications of security equipment and system are reviewed to determine modification capability and feasibility in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and client requirements. |
2 Determine modifications . |
2.1 Terms of reference and budgetary constraints relevant to security equipment and system modifications are identified and complied with. 2.2 Design concepts and options are researched and evaluated to identify most appropriate modification to meet security equipment and system capabilities. 2.3 Security equipment and system schematics , specifications and configuration are adjusted to clearly and accurately show details of planned modifications. 2.4 Proposed modifications to security equipment and system satisfy changed operational requirements and client requirements. 2.5 Proposed modifications comply with relevant legislative, regulatory and industry requirements. |
3 Document recommended modifications . |
3.1 Business equipment and technology is used to prepare and present information in required format and style. 3.2 Recommended security equipment and system modifications and modification requirements are clearly and accurately documented. 3.3 Modification options and recommendations are supported by reliable and verifiable information. 3.4 Feedback is sought from relevant persons and all queries are responded to promptly, courteously and accurately. 3.5 Client confirmation to proceed with proposed security equipment and system modifications is obtained and processed in accordance with organisational procedures. 3.6 Relevant documentation is securely maintained with due regard to client confidentiality in accordance with organisational procedures. |

Assessment processes and techniques must be culturally appropriate and suitable to the language, literacy and numeracy capacity of the candidate and the competency being assessed. In all cases where practical assessment is used, it should be combined with targeted questioning to assess the underpinning knowledge. Oral questioning or written assessment may be used to assess underpinning knowledge. In assessment situations where the candidate is offered a choice between oral questioning and written assessment, questions are to be identical. Supplementary evidence may be obtained from relevant authenticated correspondence from existing supervisors, team leaders or specialist training staff. |
