Elements and Performance Criteria

Elements

Performance Criteria

Elements describe the essential outcomes

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element. Where bold italicised text is used, further information is detailed in the range of conditions section

1. Prepare for continuous improvement

1.1 Quality requirements are identified and applied

1.2 Manufacturing systems and processes  are identified from workplace instructions

2. Apply continuous improvement

2.1 Continuous improvement tools  and problem-solving techniques  relevant to the process are identified and applied

2.2 Proposed improvements to processes are trialled, monitored and evaluated

2.3 Waste  minimisation principles and processes are identified

2.4 Recommendations are made according to workplace procedures

3. Monitor continuous improvement

3.1 Continuous improvement requirements are monitored to ensure products and processes comply with workplace quality

3.2 Workplace continuous improvement systems and processes are monitored on an ongoing basis to capitalise on identified opportunities

3.3 Continuous improvement forms and work sheets are completed according to workplace procedures

Foundation Skills

This section specifies work environments and conditions that may affect performance. Essential operating conditions that may be present (depending on the work situation, needs of the candidate, accessibility of the item, and local industry and regional contexts) are included. Bold italicised wording, if used in the performance criteria, is detailed below.

Reading skills to:

  • identify manufacturing schedules and production quality requirements
  • identify workplace waste-minimisation processes.

Writing skills to:

  • complete continuous improvement, work sheets and production improvement forms.

Oral communication skills to:

  • communicate workplace systems and processes with co-workers
  • communicate improvement ideas at team meetings and with supervisors.

Initiative skills to:

  • identify improvement opportunities and take steps to share ideas.

Problem-solving skills to:

  • identify manufacturing problems and analyse them for improvement opportunities.

Range of Conditions

This section specifies work environments and conditions that may affect performance. Essential operating conditions that may be present (depending on the work situation, needs of the candidate, accessibility of the item, and local industry and regional contexts) are included. Bold italicised wording, if used in the performance criteria, is detailed below.

Unit updated to reflect the new standards for Training Packages

Replaces AUMFQM2001 Monitor and maintain continuous improvement of systems and processes

Performance Evidence

Before competency can be determined, individuals must have competently undertaken the continuous improvement of systems and processes on a minimum of two occasions.

Individuals must demonstrate they can:

  • apply workplace continuous improvement processes
  • apply production problem-solving techniques
  • identify opportunities for improvement and recommend solutions
  • comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements when applying workplace improvements
  • follow workplace procedures for continuous improvement in automotive manufacturing
  • follow work instructions for continuous improvement in automotive manufacturing
  • monitor and evaluate the improvement of systems and processes.

Knowledge Evidence

Individuals must be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

  • WHS requirements and workplace procedures when applying workplace continuous improvement
  • workplace continuous improvement tools, systems and processes relating to automotive manufacturing
  • continuous improvement forms and work sheets relating to automotive manufacturing
  • waste minimisation procedures relating to automotive manufacturing.

Assessment Conditions

Assessors must satisfy SNR/AQTF assessor requirements.

Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting.

Where assessment of competency includes third-party evidence, individuals must provide evidence that links them to continuous improvement in automotive manufacturing, e.g. continuous improvement plan.

Assessors must verify performance evidence through questioning on skills and knowledge to ensure correct interpretation and application.

The following resources must be made available:

  • automotive manufacturing workplace or simulated workplace
  • workplace instructions relating to automotive manufacturing
  • workplace continuous improvement procedures
  • tools, equipment and machinery required in the manufacturing process
  • continuous improvement forms and work sheets.
