This unit covers the competency required to recondition explosive ordnance packaging.

Reconditioning of the packaging is carried out in accordance with organisation policy and procedures while adhering to all relevant occupational health and safety requirements. The unit also requires the reconditioned packaging to be tested on completion, to confirm the integrity of the packaging.

The application of this unit in the workplace - the environments, complexities and situations involved - will be written during Phase II of the Review of the PUA00 Public Safety Training Package.

This text will be useful for the purposes of job descriptions, recruitment advice or job analysis; where possible, it will not be too job specific to allow other industries to import it into other Training Packages, where feasible.

1. Prepare for reconditioning 

1.1 Requirement for reconditioning of packaging  is identified from work requests/instructions and is confirmed

1.2 Occupational health and safety requirements, including those contained in organisation  procedures, are applied throughout the operation

1.3 Technical references , tools, equipment and consumables  required for the maintenance are identified, acquired and prepared in accordance with organisation procedures

1.4 Explosive ordnance packaging is inspected to confirm that it is free from explosives  in accordance with statutory and organisation procedures

1.5 The explosive ordnance packaging is inspected to ensure it is capable of being reconditioned in accordance with statutory and organisation requirements

2. Recondition explosive ordnance packaging 

2.1 Explosive ordnance packaging is reconditioned in accordance with organisation policy and procedures and technical specifications

2.2 Tests  on reconditioned explosive ordnance packaging are conducted in accordance with organisation policy and procedures

3. Carry out post reconditioning procedures 

3.1 Explosive ordnance packaging is processed in accordance with organisation procedures

3.2 Housekeeping procedures are conducted in accordance with workshop requirements

3.3 Documentation and records  are maintained in accordance with statutory, organisation and workshop requirements
