Unit Descriptor

This unit covers the competency required to apply appropriate safety procedures or plans related to the control or mitigation of radio frequency radiation, including micro-waves, and radar and radio transmissions.

The unit includes researching and consulting about and applying procedures within an organisation that have been specifically developed for the organisation.

No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication. In a Defence context, this means that there is no civilian need to hold this unit in order to meet licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements.

Application of the Unit

Competency should be assessed in the workplace or under conditions that accurately simulate a realistic workplace in accordance with all relevant legislation and organisation requirements.

Evidence should be gathered while observing the individual developing the noise management plans. A record of all relevant research and interviews should also be submitted as evidence for assessment.

All aspects of this unit must be conducted in adherence with organisational policy, procedures and guidelines, including relevant:

1.1 Source of radio frequency radiation is identified.

1.2 Existing organisational records  relevant to the radiation are identified and accessed.

1.3 Work health and safety  ( WHS ) requirements  including those contained in organisational procedures, are applied throughout the operation.

1.4 Appropriate consultation with stakeholders  is conducted.

2. Implement radio frequency radiation safety procedures/plans 

2.1 Appropriate radio frequency radiation protective measures  are employed.

2.2 Relevant notices/signs are displayed or published.

2.3 Radio frequency radiation sources are handled in accordance with legislation, standards and/or organisational policy, procedures and guidelines.

3. Maintain workplace radio frequency radiation safety documentation 

3.1 Workplace radio frequency radiation records are maintained.

3.2 Equipment/instrument deployment and maintenance records/documentation are maintained.

Context of assessment
