Release 1.  This is the first release of this unit of competency in the TLI Transport and Logistics Training Package.

Application

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to work with the fundamental aspects of supply chains. It includes determining fundamental aspects, monitoring fundamental aspects, implementing continuous improvement strategies and reporting on fundamental aspects.

Fundamental aspects of a supply chain includes all activities that relate to the integration, operation, purchasing and distribution of products and goods that are critical to the success of a business. Failure to manage the fundamental aspects of a supply chain can have a significant impact on the ability of a business to survive in the market place.

The unit is applicable to individuals working in supply chain management roles. Typically, they will work independently and perform complex tasks in a range of familiar and unfamiliar contexts.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit of competency at the time of publication.

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and includes

  • addressing legal, ethical, envrionemental, corporate social responsibility principles and sustainability issues in supply chains
  • analysing discrepencies, inconsistencies in data and stakeholder feedback
  • applying supply chain policies and procedures
  • implementing remediation actions
  • determining:
  • baseline measurements and industry benchmarks
  • strategic supply chain documentation
  • supply chain planning and forecasting requirements
  • supply chain vulnerabilities and opportunities
  • evaluating strategies that support continuous improvement
  • examining supplier capacity and capability
  • developing strategies and recommendations that support continuous improvement activities
  • making recommendations for improvement
  • managing risks and developing alternative strategies
  • monitoring supply chain:
  • commercial and customer relationships
  • distribution and purchasing channels
  • flows
  • Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • operations and outcomes

Assessment Conditions

Assessors must hold credentials specified within the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must satisfy the Principles of Assessment and Rules of Evidence and all regulatory requirements included within the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must occur in workplace operational situations where it is appropriate to do so. Where this is not appropriate, assessment must occur in simulated workplace operational situations that replicate workplace conditions.

Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate.

Resources for assessment must include access to a range of

  • exercises, case studies or other simulations
  • materials, tools and equipment used in industry
  • documentation including organisational policies and procedures, industry standards, regulations, codes of practice, operational manuals and equipment specifications.
