Qualification Description

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who apply the skills and knowledge to coach participants up to an intermediate level in a specific sport.

This qualification provides a pathway to work in community coaching roles working or volunteering at community-based sport clubs and organisations in the Australian sport industry. Individuals with this qualification possess a range of well-developed skills where discretion and judgement are required. They are responsible for their own outputs.

Possible job titles depend on the specific sport and may include community coach.

Specific industry accreditation requirements may apply to sport-specific coaching accreditation and information should be obtained from the relevant National Sporting Organisation (NSO).

Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements for this qualification.

Packaging Rules

10 units must be completed:

  • 6 core units
  • 4 elective units, consisting of either:
  • 1 unit from Group A or Group B or Group C
  • at least 1 unit from the electives listed in Group E
  • up to 2 elective units which can be selected from elsewhere in the SIS Training Package, or from any other current Training Package or accredited course

or

  • all the units in Group D.

Packaging Rules for each specialisation:

  • the Group B elective must be selected for award of the Certificate III in Sport Coaching (Swimming)
  • the Group C elective must be selected for award of the Certificate III in Sport Coaching (Tennis)
  • the Group D electives must be selected for award of the Certificate III in Sport Coaching (Equestrian).

The selection of electives must be guided by the job outcome sought, local industry requirements and the complexity of skills appropriate to the AQF level of this qualification. Electives which appear in italics have prerequisite units of competency
