Qualification Description
This qualification reflects the role of individuals who work as cosmetic tattooists who design and provide cosmetic tattooing services.
These individuals work autonomously and are accountable for personal outputs. Their work involves the self-directed application of specialised knowledge and experience to consult, design and manage sequential treatment programs. They possess highly developed communication and technical skills. Practitioners operate within a defined scope of practice and use initiative and judgement to refuse or refer treatments as required.
Work is typically conducted in beauty salons and skin clinics.
The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State or Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.
No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.
Cosmetic Tattooing is subject to Skin Penetration regulation in some states and territories. The supply of topical anaesthetics is restricted in some states and territories.
Entry Requirements
There are no entry requirements for this qualification.
Packaging Rules
9 units must be completed:
- 4 core units
- 5 elective units, consisting of:
- 1 unit from Group A: Infection Control
- at least 1 unit and up to 3 units from Groups B to F
- the remaining units selected from the electives listed below.
Any combination of electives that meets the rules above can be selected for the award of the Diploma of Cosmetic Tattooing. Where appropriate, electives may be packaged to provide a qualification with a specialisation.
Specialisations
Packaging Rules for each specialisation:
- All group B electives must be selected for the award of the Diploma of Cosmetic Tattooing (Eyebrows).
- All Group C electives must be selected for the award of the Diploma of Cosmetic Tattooing (Lips).
- All Group D electives must be selected for the award of the Diploma of Cosmetic Tattooing (Eyes).
- All Group E electives must be selected for the award of the Diploma of Cosmetic Tattooing (Scalp Micropigmentation).
- All Group F electives must be selected for the award of the Diploma of Cosmetic Tattooing (Breast Areola).
- Where two or more specialisations are completed award of the qualification would read Diploma of Cosmetic Tattooing (Eyebrows, Lips, Eyes, Scalp Micropigmentation, or Breast Areola) as relevant to the completed specialisations.
The selection of electives must be guided by the job outcome sought, local industry requirements and the complexity of skills appropriate to the AQF level of this qualification.
