Application

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to communicate from remote locations using appropriate devices.

The unit applies to individuals who conduct activity in remote locations

All work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures, according to state/territory health and safety, biosecurity and environmental regulations, legislation and standards that apply to the workplace.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1.1 Identify purpose for communication and intended audience

1.2 Select most appropriate device for communication according to available resources and relevant workplace procedures

2. Use appropriate device to communicate remotely

2.1 Access device for remote communication according to workplace procedures

2.2 Ensure that any required communication devices and/or attachments are prepared according to technology provider requirements

2.3 Communicate with the intended audience using the appropriate device in a concise manner to convey information accurately

Performance Evidence

An individual demonstrating competency must satisfy all of the elements and performance criteria in this unit.

There must be evidence that the individual has:

  • communicated remotely on at least five occasions.

In doing the above, there must be evidence that the individual has:

  • applied technical processes when using communication devices.

Knowledge Evidence

An individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge required to perform the tasks outlined in the elements and performance criteria of this unit. This includes knowledge of:

  • key features of relevant communication devices
  • culturally sensitive communication protocol
  • workplace protocols for communicating remotely
  • workplace policies for remote communication.

Assessment Conditions

Assessment of the skills in this unit of competency must take place under the following conditions:

  • physical conditions:
  • skills must be demonstrated in an environment that accurately represents workplace conditions
  • resources, equipment and materials:
  • relevant communication devices
  • relationships:
  • intended audience.

Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational education and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
