1. Plan and prepare for conveyor operations
|
1.1 Access, interpret and apply conveyor operations documentation, and ensure the work activity is compliant
1.2 Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements prior to proceeding
1.3 Plan job and optimise production requirements
1.4 Identify, address and report environmental issues and ground conditions
1.5 Identify, address and report potential hazards and risks
1.6 Select and wear personal correct protective equipment
1.7 Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency

2. Operate conveyor
|
2.1 Carry out start-up, park, shutdown and secure equipment procedures
2.2 Coordinate activities with others prior to commencing, during and on completion of work activities
2.3 Activate audio and visual safety indicators before conveyor operation commences
2.4 Ensure safe operation of equipment and maintain safety of self, others and plant/equipment
2.5 Monitor conveyor performance utilising appropriate indicators
2.6 Assess weight and dimension of materials and ensure conveyor is not exceeding capacity
2.7 Monitor the process and ensure spillage is minimised
2.8 Identify and remove/manage contaminants
2.9 Complete the work plan within the operating capacities of the equipment

3. Carry out operator maintenance

3.1 Prepare machine for maintenance
3.2 Conduct inspections and fault finding procedures
3.3 Carry out scheduled maintenance tasks

Performance Evidence
Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:
- locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures
- works effectively with others to undertake and complete conveyor operations that meet all of the required outcomes including:
- using a range of communications techniques and equipment to convey information to others
- maintaining written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures
- communicating to confirm work requirements
- demonstrates consistent timely completion of conveyor operations that safely, effectively and efficiently meets the required outcomes, including on a minimum of three (3) separate occasions including:
- conducting prestart, shutdown and secure of conveyor equipment
- monitoring conveyor performance
- loading conveyor correctly taking into account weight and dimension of materials
- minimising spillage while operating conveyor
- identifying and removing contaminants
- conducting minor maintenance and adjustments requirements
- conducting housekeeping activities
Knowledge Evidence
The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in conducting conveyor operations through:
- conveyor systems and related equipment configurations
- conveyor systems equipment characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations
- differences in night and day working conditions
- site environmental, ground conditions and constraints
Assessment Conditions
- An assessor of this unit must satisfy the requirements of the NVR/AQTF or their successors; and Industry regulations for certification and licensing; and,
- this unit must be assessed in the context of this sector’s work environment; and,
- this unit must be assessed using Resources and Infrastructure Industry sector specific policies, procedures, processes and operational manuals; and,
- assessor requirements differ between sectors as follows:
- when assessing this unit in the context of the Metalliferous Mining sector:
- an assessor must demonstrate the skills and knowledge of this unit through five (5) years of current and continuous work with the Industry sector and must hold the TAE Assessor Skill Set or equivalent; or,
- when assessing this unit in the context of the Coal Mining sector:
- an assessor must demonstrate the skills and knowledge of this unit through twelve (12) month work experience in an Industry relevant to the skills being assessed within the last three (3) years; and,
- where the assessor does not have current experience a co-assessment or partnership arrangement needs to exist between the qualified assessor and an Industry technical expert/ subject matter expert. The Industry technical expert/subject matter expert must demonstrate competency in the unit being assessed, and be currently working in the sector with a minimum of twelve (12) months’ work experience within the last three (3) years.
