Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

  • locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures
  • implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of reaming including:
  • interpreting reaming data and determining an appropriate course of action
  • operating machine
  • operating ancillary equipment
  • attaching the reamer
  • using thread gauge and dressing slightly damaged drill stem threads
  • lubricating threads and other components
  • inspecting and cleaning equipment and checking for wear and tear
  • disassembling, cleaning, inspecting and reassembling reaming heads
  • works effectively with others to undertake and complete the conduct of reaming that meets all of the required outcomes including:
  • complying with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures
  • communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions
  • communicating clearly and concisely with others to resolve coordination requirements prior to commencing and during work activities
  • demonstrates completion of the conduction of reaming that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:
  • selecting appropriate reaming tool(s)
  • connecting appropriate reamer
  • reaming/back reaming, adding/removing drill stem sections
  • monitoring and interpreting all gauge/dial readings
  • monitoring and interpreting drill fluid flow from both ends of hole
  • maintaining drill log and reports

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in conducting reaming through:

  • accessing, interpreting and applying the legislative, organisation and site requirements and procedures for:
  • work, health and safety
  • environmental issues
  • operating drill rig
  • housekeeping
  • identifying equipment characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations
  • identifying basic rock/geology types and their impact on HDD operations, including hard rock and scree
  • identifying the appropriate reamers for different geology types
  • understanding the principles of HDD
