1. Plan and prepare for underground service installation
|
1.1 Access, interpret and apply underground service documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
1.2 Review the installation and identify required tasks
1.3 Access, interpret and clarify the specific task information and requirements
1.4 Ensure a job plan is available which makes best use of the available resources and meets task requirements

2. Ensure appropriate initiation of tasks is carried out
|
2.1 Confirm that the necessary resources are available for the safe, effective and efficient conduct of the tasks
2.2 Ensure clear and timely instructions are communicated to team members and others involved
2.3 Set out tasks as required for the job plan

3. Oversee the execution of tasks

3.1 Monitor the installation against required outcomes and identify performance gaps
3.2 Initiate adjustments to work practice/job plan and ensure achievement of required outcomes

Performance Evidence
Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:
- locates and applies relevant legislation, documentation, policies and procedures
- implements appropriate procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient supervision of installation of underground service using open excavation tasks including:
- identifying and interpreting relevant information and data
- calculatingculateinology quantities for the execution of tasks, including:
- volumes
- grades
- percentages
- areas
- resource consumption figures, including required supply rates
- works effectively with others to plan, prepare and conduct for the installation of underground service using open excavation tasks including:
- providing clear and timely instruction and supervision using a range of communication techniques to those involved
- preparing for and conducting briefings, toolbox and site meeting
- maintaining clear and legible written records and reporting systems
- demonstrates consistent, clear and timely application of the principles for the installation of underground service using open excavation tasks, that safely, effectively and efficiently meet all of the required outcomes on a minimum of one (1) occasion including:
- supervising others in the installation of underground service using open excavation tasks
- organising availability of necessary resources
- monitoring required outcomes and identifying performance gaps
- recommending changes to improve the execution of tasks

- identifying related underground services and utilities
Assessment Conditions
- An assessor of this unit must satisfy the requirements of the NVR/AQTF or their successors; and Industry regulations for certification and licensing; and,
- this unit must be assessed in the context of this sector’s work environment; and,
- this unit must be assessed using Resources and Infrastructure Industry sector specific policies, procedures, processes and operational manuals; and,
- an assessor must demonstrate the skills and knowledge of this unit through five (5) years’ work experience in the Industry sector; and,
- where the assessor does not have current experience a co-assessment or partnership arrangement needs to exist between the qualified assessor and an Industry technical expert/ subject matter expert. The Industry technical expert/subject matter expert must hold the unit being assessed and be currently working in the sector with a minimum of two (2) years’ of current work experience.
