Unit Descriptor
This unit covers the competency required to locate, identify and check the status of fire safety systems, while predominantly under direct supervision.
No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Application of the Unit
This unit applies to personnel required to locate, identify and check the status of fire safety systems. Work at this level is undertaken under direct supervision and instruction.
The installation of fire safety systems is required under the Building Code of Australia and implemented through state and territory building regulations.

2.1 Fire safety systems are checked in accordance with organisational procedures. 2.2 Status of fire safety systems is monitored, irregularities such as faults and isolation of individual functions are identified and reported in accordance with organisational procedures. |

Method of assessment |
In a public safety environment assessment is usually conducted via direct observation in a training environment or in the workplace via subject matter supervision and/or mentoring, which is typically recorded in a competency workbook. Assessment is completed using appropriately qualified assessors who select the most appropriate method of assessment. Assessment may occur in an operational environment or in an industry-approved simulated workor in an agency-approved simulated work environment. Forms of assessment that are typically used include:
