Application

This unit of competency involves the skills and knowledge required to work within an emergency management context. It includes confirming jurisdictional emergency management arrangements, contributing to entity awareness of jurisdictional arrangements, supporting organisational and community emergency planning and decisions and applying knowledge of emergency management arrangements.

The unit applies to personnel preparing to work within an emergency management context. This may include individuals who are undertaking or are preparing to work in an emergency management role within their organisation and/or local community and requires broad knowledge of emergency management arrangements within differing jurisdictions.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Assessment requirements

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and includes

  • applying emergency management concepts and principles
  • confirming emergency management requirements
  • contributing to entity awareness, preparedness and engagement with emergency management concepts and principles
  • demonstrating decision making in emergency management
  • following organisational policies and procedures
  • locating and interpreting emergency management arrangements.

Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and includes knowledge of

  • emergency management arrangements
  • emergency management terminology, concepts and principles
  • organisational documentation, policies and procedures
  • risk assessment methodology.

Assessment Conditions

Assessors must hold credentials specified within the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must satisfy the Principles of Assessment and Rules of Evidence and all regulatory requirements included within the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must occur in operational situations or in simulated operational training situations that reflect workplace conditions.

Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate.

Resources for assessment must include access to

  • a range of exercises and/or case studies
  • appropriate materials and equipment currently used in industry including
  • emergency management legislation
  • organisational plans, policies and procedures
  • applicable documentation including standards, equipment specifications, regulations, codes of practice and operational manuals.
