This unit covers the competency required to undertake surveillance patrols as part of a team  during land operations in the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

Surveillance patrols are conducted to both maintain security and to gain information . Surveillance patrolling  is carried out in both forward and rear areas to detect, locate, identify and report on threats and to monitor the threat environment.

The application of this unit in the workplace - the environments, complexities and situations involved - will be written during Phase II of the Review of the PUA00 Public Safety Training Package.

This text will be useful for the purposes of job descriptions, recruitment advice or job analysis; where possible, it will not be too job specific to allow other industries to import it into other Training Packages, where feasible.

2. Apply patrolling techniques 

2.1 Patrol is inserted  and extracted  in accordance with the patrol orders and standard procedures

2.2 Patrol security  is maintained in accordance with patrol orders, operational requirements and standard procedures

2.3 Formations  are adhered to in accordance with patrol requirements and standard procedures

2.4 Patrol drills and procedures  are conducted in accordance with operational requirements, orders and standard procedures

2.5 Navigational techniques  are applied in accordance with patrol requirements and standard procedures

2.6 Sign  is detected and reported in accordance with patrol requirements and standard procedures

2.7 Threat  is located, identified and monitored when present within designated areas in accordance with standard procedures

3. Finalise patrolling activities 

3.1 Post patrol activities  are conducted in accordance with patrol orders and standard procedures

3.2 Post patrol administration  is conducted in accordance with patrol orders and standard procedures

RANGE STATEMENT

A surveillance patrol team is 

A grouping of up to ten personnel (for infantry this would be a section)
