Application

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to prepare a compiled survey plan to industry standards including checking the plan to ensure compliance with organisational requirements.

This unit applies to those working as land surveyors. Those undertaking this unit work independently, performing routine tasks in a familiar context.

The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State or Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Compile survey plans.

1.1. Access and gather information and resources required.

1.2. Check compiled plan to ensure it is mathematically correct.

1.3. Ensure plan is endorsed by the appropriate personnel.

1.4. Use techniques and calculations to prepare the compiled plan in accordance with established survey practice.

2. Check survey plans.

2.1. Check survey plans to ensure compliance with specialised requirements and industry standards.

2.2. Refer any discrepancies or abnormalities to appropriate personnel for verification or amendment.

2.3. Endorse approval in accordance with organisational procedures.

  • interpret legislation, instruments, organisational policies and procedures relating to survey plans.

  • convert imperial dimensions to metric dimensions.

Performance Evidence

Evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit in the context of the job role, and on at least one occasion:

  • check a survey plan against requirements for accuracy and compliance
  • compile a survey plan
  • calculate a survey close
  • create an easement or covenant.

Knowledge Evidence

Demonstrated knowledge required to complete the tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit:

  • land titles office guidelines for plan preparation and lodgement
  • principles and methods of calculations used in survey plans including distance calculations and geometry
  • past and current survey techniques and practices
  • requirements for easement or covenant creation
  • legislation, in the context of compiling and checking survey plans.

Assessment Conditions

Skills must be demonstrated in the workplace or in a simulated environment that reflects workplace conditions.

Assessment must ensure access to:

  • legislation, in the context of compiling and checking survey plans
  • procedures and guidelines relating to compilation and checking of survey plans.
  • survey plan drawing equipment, records and resources
  • a programmable calculator, or device used in the workplace for survey calculations.

Assessors must satisfy the Standards for Registered Training Organisations’ requirements for assessors.
