Application
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to finish products made from composite materials.
This unit applies to an individual working alone or as part of a team.
The unit principally refers to a finishing process, such as automotive class ‘A’ finish, that is applied to an engineered product prior to sale.
No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

1. Check work requirements |
1.1 Identify requirements from job specifications 1.2 Identify and take action on hazards that will impact meeting work requirements |
2. Prepare equipment and materials |
2.1 Verify tools, equipment, jigs, fixtures and measuring devices meet requirements 2.2 Ensure availability of products, components and consumables for work to proceed 2.3 Ensure safety equipment is available and in good operational condition according to equipment specifications |
3. Assemble and finish products |
3.1 Assemble and join components according to job requirements 3.2 Prepare surfaces for finishing 3.3 Check product meets specifications and quality standards, modifying the finishing process to amend output where necessary to meet job specifications 3.4 Apply testing methods to ensure conformity to job specifications during production 3.5 Clean, adjust and lubricate equipment according to equipment specifications |
4. Respond to process control variances |
4.1 Recognise and log process control variances and their causes 4.2 Determine, prioritise and implement remedial and preventative actions based on identified issues and causes of process control variances 4.3 Accurately maintain records and logbooks |
