Release 1. Unit code and title changed. Application changed. Elements and Performance Criteria changed. Range of Conditions removed. Assessment Requirements changed. Supersedes and is equivalent to PMBPROD241 Lay up rubber lining or lag pulleys.
Application
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to install (‘lay-up’) rubber sheeting for the internal lining of tanks, or external lagging on mechanised rollers, carried out in a workshop or off-site facility.
This unit applies to an individual working alone or as part of a team.
The unit principally refers to the preparation of the surface to be lined or lagged, and the successful application of rubber to the surface using adhesive bonding.
No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

Elements and Performance Criteria
Elements Elements describe the essential outcomes. |
Performance Criteria Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element. |
1. Prepare work area for rubber lining or lagging work |
1.1 Identify requirements from job specifications 1.2 Identify hazards and available risk controls according to workplace hazard control procedures 1.3 Plan work process stages, work sequences and durations within each stage, and required materials from job specifications 1.4 Design time-efficient and economical work plans that achieve quality standards while minimising downtime and materials wastage 1.5 Check equipment, tools and materials for condition, quality and compliance tags as required by workplace procedures and work plan 1.6 Identify a contamination-free zone in which to arrange materials from hazard assessment 1.7 Ensure materials are clean and free of debris and damage, and report on variances to relevant personnel |
2. Prepare surfaces for rubber lining or lagging |
2.1 Examine component, vessel or pulley and ensure surfaces to be lined or lagged are free of defects and contaminants 2.2 Plan sequence for application of adhesives and materials from job specifications and work plan 2.3 Prepare lining or lagging surfaces of rubber sheeting to meet job specifications |
3. Lay-up rubber lining or lagging |
3.1 Monitor ventilation and level of activity within confined spaces during lay-up process and adjust work plan as required to ensure work health and safety requirements are met 3.2 Position lining or lagging segments according to lay-up plan 3.3 Exclude trapped air and ensure there is complete contact between lining or lagging and surface 3.4 Ensure joins are sealed and adhered properly with no gaps or overlaps 3.5 Check for slips, sagging or other separation of lining or lagging from surface 3.6 Ensure lining or lagging material is finished off at extremities 3.7 Cure rubber lining or lagging according to work plan |
4. Clean equipment work area |
4.1 Clean, inspect and store tools and equipment used according to equipment specifications for serviceable condition and storage 4.2 Clean work area according to workplace procedures 4.3 Apply waste management and recycling strategies according to workplace procedures 4.4 Accurately complete workplace documentation |
5. Respond to process control variances |
5.1 Identify and log process control variances and their causes 5.2 Determine, prioritise and implement remedial and preventative actions based on identified issues and causes 5.3 Accurately maintain records and logbooks |
