This unit was released in NWP Water Training Package release 1.0 and meets the Standards for Training Packages. This unit supersedes and is equivalent to NWP241B Inspect and maintain basic dams and water storages.

Application
This unit describes the skills required to undertake inspection of basic dams and water storages and to conduct routine maintenance according to organisational maintenance plans and manufacturer specifications.
This unit applies to those working as field staff with specific responsibility for undertaking basic surveillance and routine maintenance on dams and storages, including urban reservoirs and large wastewater lagoons.
The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to.
Those undertaking this unit would work under supervision, while performing routine tasks in a limited range of familiar contexts.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to unit at the time of publication.

1. Undertake inspection |
1.1 Select, fit and use safety equipment, including personal protective equipment. 1.2 Carry out routine inspections of dams and storages. 1.3 Read seepage flow device gauge and use table to translate, and record information. 1.4 Identify assets and structural components requiring routine maintenance or repairs. |
2. Undertake maintenance of dam or storage equipment and structures |
2.1 Select and check equipment and materials required for maintenance and repair tasks. 2.2 Carry out routine maintenance. 2.3 Operate basic flow control, measuring, surveillance and ancillary devices as part of routine checks. |
3. Report on dam or storage inspection and maintenance |
3.1 Communicate abnormal observations and potentially serious maintenance issues with line management. 3.2 Complete dam inspection reports and routine maintenance reports and forward to relevant personnel. |
