Application

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to research emerging industry innovations and practices and assess their impact on own practice.

The unit applies to individuals working in any area of the textiles, clothing and footwear (TCF) industry in job roles that require the ability to research and critically analyse information for its application to business and work practice.

No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

Performance Evidence

There must be evidence the candidate has completed the tasks outlined in the elements and performance criteria of this unit, and demonstrated the ability to:

  • identify and use at least five different information sources to investigate local and global innovations
  • use information to analyse the impact of emerging innovations on one textiles product or service in the areas of:
  • globalisation
  • ethics
  • sustainability
  • supply chain management, including:
  • key components of supply chain
  • value adding in supply chain for sustainable outcomes
  • risks in supply chain for sustainable outcomes
  • implications of extended supply chains on sourcing, production and distribution
  • technology, including:
  • identification of digital processes used in design, production, supply and distribution
  • scope and potential of specialised industry digital software
  • establish and document a personal plan for maintaining currency of industry knowledge
  • identify and demonstrate integration of a current or emerging innovation into own practice.

Knowledge Evidence

There must be evidence the candidate has knowledge of:

  • sources of reliable information on industry innovations and practices
  • ethical practices and business corporate sustainability requirements (CSR) underpinning the textile and apparel industry
  • innovations and drivers in sustainability and circularity and how they impact all business and work processes
  • impact of globalisation on the fashion industry
  • supply chain management innovations, including:
  • concepts of value in textiles, clothing and footwear (TCF) supply chains
  • common risks in industry supply chains
  • effects of extended supply chains on fashion sourcing, production and distribution
  • supply and sustainability risks for the textiles industry
  • technological innovations, including those related to:
  • digital processes used design, production, supply and distribution of textile products
  • specialised and commonly used industry software programs
  • virtual reality as a selling tool.

Assessment Conditions

Skills must have been demonstrated in the workplace or in a simulated environment that reflects workplace conditions and contingencies. The following conditions must be met for this unit:

  • use of suitable facilities, equipment and resources, including:
  • digital technology for research.

Assessors must satisfy the NVR/AQTF mandatory competency requirements for assessors
