Qualification Description

This qualification specifies the competencies required by technical specialists who demonstrate advanced theoretical and technical knowledge, autonomy and well developed judgement to undertake environmental monitoring and management activities at a site or for a significant environmental management program or project.

This qualification applies to individuals who have some previous training or work experience at a senior or advanced level performing a wide range of environmental sampling, monitoring, field-testing, inspection, auditing or data processing tasks for enterprises. Job roles targeted by this qualification include environmental site coordinators, environmental managers and senior environmental officers employed by enterprises or authorities in a wide range of industry sectors.

No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Entry Requirements

Entrants to the MSS80218 Graduate Certificate in Environmental Management are required to have one of the following:

  • relevant higher education qualification or equivalent industry experience
  • MSS50218 Diploma of Environmental Monitoring and Technology together with work experience at a senior or advanced level in environmental monitoring and technology or relevant technical field
  • extensive work experience at a senior or advanced level in environmental monitoring and technology or relevant field.

Packaging Rules

Total number of units = Twelve (12) 

  • Five (5)  core units
  • Seven (7)  elective units, consisting of:
  • a minimum of three (3)  units from Group A
  • the balance of units, to a maximum of four (4) , may be selected from:
  • Group A
  • Group B
  • up to two (2)  units from any endorsed Training Package or accredited course at Diploma level – these units must be relevant to the work outcome.

All electives chosen must contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome.
