Qualification Description

This qualification defines the advanced skills and knowledge required of an employee who works within boating services industry.

The advanced skills associated with this qualification are intended to apply to a wide range of boating services work including the general maintenance of structures, hulls, engines and on board mechanical work. It also includes maintaining the marine environment.

This qualification may be accessed by direct entry. While there is no qualification entry requirement, it is assumed that the learner is either already a tradesperson with access to structured on and off-the-job training or is an apprentice under an Australian Apprenticeship arrangement. It should not be used as a pre-employment or pre-apprenticeship program.

In some jurisdictions, units in this qualification may relate to licensing or regulatory requirements. Licensing and regulatory information is included in the relevant units of competency.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication. Local regulations should be checked.

The minimum requirements for this qualification can also be met by holders of one of the following qualifications or equivalent with the completion of additional units of competency drawn from two (2) units from Group D not already held and five (5) units from Group B (note that the seven (7) additional competencies must be units not included in the Certificate III qualification already held):

  • MEM30719 Certificate III in Marine Craft Construction
  • MEM30919 Certificate III in Boating Services
  • AUR30520 Certificate III in Marine Mechanical Technology
  • MST30220 Certificate III in Manufactured Textile Products

There are no entry requirements for this qualification.

Packaging Rules

The requirement for achievement of the MEM40222 Certificate IV in Boating Services is the achievement of competence in twenty-six (26) units of competency made up of:

  • all seven (7) core units of competency listed below and
  • a minimum of one (1) unit from Group A and
  • a minimum of five (5) units from Group B and
  • select the balance of units from Group C to bring the total number of elective units to nineteen (19) as described below.

Up to four (4) appropriate elective units may be chosen from other MEM qualifications and endorsed Training Packages and accredited courses where those units can be applied in a boating services environment and are available for inclusion at Certificate IV.
