Application
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to manually prepare images and film and combine elements and prepare registration and artwork for the next production stage.
It applies to individuals in the printing industry who design and prepare layouts and artwork and manipulate images and texts to meet production requirements. They generally work under direct supervision.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

3.1 A range of basic combining techniques is identified to meet diverse client requirements and film substrates 3.2 Film is combined employing brush skills to achieve opaquing according to job specifications 3.3 Film is combined adding masks according to design specifications 3.4 Film is combined adding tints and stipples according to design specifications |
4 Combine paste-up elements manually |
4.1 Film is combined adding tints and stipples according to design specifications 4.2 Screen, line and type images are combined on base sheet according to job specifications 4.3 Masks are produced and positioned on base sheet to add tints, stipples and colour according to design specifications 4.4 Rules, keylines and cut marks are drawn according to job specifications 4.5 Assembled paste-up is checked for squareness, accuracy in positioning of elements and cleanliness of work |
5 Maintain register of combined images |
5.1 Punch register systems are applied to combine images 5.2 Registration of combined images is accurately placed to ensure alignment of film 5.3 Registration of combined images is accurately secured to ensure alignment of all components |
6 Prepare finished film and artwork for next production stage |
6.1 Finished film and artwork are laid-down and spaced according to specified paper size identified in job specifications 6.2 Pages and film are pasted up to suit given imposition |
