Assessment requirements

Modification History

Release 1

This version first released with ICP Printing and Graphic Arts Training Package Version 1.0.

Performance Evidence

Evidence of the ability to:

  • correctly prepare TWO cutting formes (one large, one small) to accommodate TWO different, typically used substrates using all relevant processes according to manufacturer’s and job specifications, enterprise procedures and listed performance criteria.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

Knowledge Evidence

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

  • identify work health and safety factors for:
  • setting knives
  • cleaning the machine
  • list checks made to correctly position bridge holes
  • explain reinforcing bridge holes
  • identify checks to ensure saw cuts accurately match the line drawings
  • list checks made when cutting and shaping knives and creasers
  • list factors that determine the amount of rubber attached to the forme
  • list factors that determine positioning of the rubber on the forme
  • list important items to consider when setting knives and creasers into position on the forme blank
  • list checks required when attaching stripping materials to stripper backing materials and determine how this is done accurately
  • explain the purpose of mounting strips
  • identify areas to proof to ensure the cutting forme meets production order specifications
  • explain the importance of allocating numbers to each forme, and the accepted method of recording forme allocation numbers
  • identify areas of the machine that need regular cleaning, materials that need to be cleaned from the machine, and how to keep the machine clear of surface rust (condensation)
  • list recommended cleaning agents applicable to the cutting forme machine
  • identify how to record and report machine maintenance problems
  • identify indicators that the machine is in need of oiling/greasing
  • explain the importance of monitoring condition of the forme and stripper, and information to record when reporting the condition status
  • identify machine manuals, safety and other documentation relevant to this task, where they are kept, and the information included in them.

Assessment Conditions

Gather evidence to demonstrate consistent performance in conditions that are safe and replicate the workplace. Noise levels, production flow, interruptions and time variances must be typical of those experienced in the converting, binding and finishing field of work and include access to relevant facilities, special purpose tools, equipment and materials.

Assessors must satisfy NVR/AQTF assessor requirements.
