Elements and Performance Criteria

Elements

Performance Criteria

Elements describe the essential outcomes.

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element.

1. Prepare to hard face saw teeth

1.1 Review work order to determine job requirements and, where required, seek clarification from appropriate personnel

1.2 Review workplace health and safety procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment, equipment lock-out and safe manual handling techniques

1.3 Identify, assess and take actions to mitigate risks and hazards associated with hard facing saw teeth

1.4 Identify workplace environmental protection procedures for minimising and disposing of waste material, cleaning tools and equipment, and maximising energy efficiency

1.5 Select appropriate tools and equipment for hard facing, and check for operational effectiveness according to manufacturer recommendations

1.6 Plan hard facing process according to work order

2. Hard face saw teeth

2.1 Remove and replace saw blade according to manufacturer instructions

2.2 Assess condition of saw blade

2.3 Select material stock and set up in machine according to manufacturer recommendations

2.4 Make adjustments to machine variables to suit saw and material

2.5 Align individual teeth to machine tip to ensure hard facing is applied to cutting surfaces

2.6 Operate and adjust machine for variables to ensure material cohesion

2.7 Assess completed facing against specifications

2.8 Identify routine processing and equipment faults, and resolve or report to appropriate personnel

Foundation Skills

This section describes those language, literacy, numeracy and employment skills that are essential for performance in this unit of competency but are not explicit in the performance criteria.
