Elements and Performance Criteria

Elements describe the essential outcomes.

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element. Where bold italicised text is used, further information is detailed in the range of conditions.

1. Identify rehabilitation requirements

1.1 Review work order for rehabilitation and clarify requirements with appropriate personnel.

1.2 Prepare to work safely according to organisation and site requirements.

1.3 Obtain and review environmental, regulatory and legislative information relating to the rehabilitation.

1.4 Inspect site and identify specific rehabilitation and revegetation requirements and drainage.

2. Plan rehabilitation operations

2.1 Select appropriate equipment for work requirements and check for operational effectiveness and manufacturer recommendations.

2.2 Conduct a risk assessment and implement controls.

2.3 Determine sequence of rehabilitation operations to ensure that time is used efficiently and that suitable equipment is available for tasks.

2.4 Advise relevant personnel of impending rehabilitation and any disruptions that may occur.

2.5 Document the rehabilitation and revegetation according to organisational protocols

3. Implement repairs to tracks, quarries and landings

3.1 Operate equipment in line with manufacturer recommendations and monitor performance to ensure efficiency and safety of operations.

3.2 Remove and store any recoverable timber.

3.3 Remove and dispose of any debris according to site procedures.

3.4 Renovate tracks, quarries and landings according to rehabilitation plan, work order and site procedures.

3.5 Establish run-off and drainage channels to approximate natural drain lines.

3.6 Revegetate required areas, providing plants with optimal growing conditions.

3.7 Record and report renovation outcomes in line with site procedures.

Foundation Skills

This section describes those core and employment skills that are essential to performance and are not explicit in the performance criteria.

Numeracy skills to:

  • estimate quantity or amount of materials required for the rehabilitation
  • estimate time for sequencing tasks and the total time for the job.

Reading skills to:

  • interpret site requirements, environmental information and manufacturer’s instructions.

Initiative and enterprise skills to:

  • find safe, cost-effective and environmentally friendly methods to perform rehabilitations.
