Qualification Description

This qualification is designed for job roles in the timber truss and frame sector of the forest and forest products industry.

The outcome of this qualification can satisfy entry requirements into FWP40416 Certificate IV in Timber Truss and Frame Design by completing the following elective units:

  • FWPCOT3204 Prepare and interpret sketches and drawings
  • FWPCOT3214 Take off material quantities
  • FWPCOT3218 Quote and interpret from manufactured timber product plans
  • FWPCOT3220 Quote and interpret from computerised timber manufactured product plans
  • FWPCOT3239 Create drawings using computer aided design systems

Plus at least one of the following specialist design units:

  • FWPTMM3204 Interpret designs to prepare timber roof truss drawings and documents using computers
  • FWPTMM3205 Interpret designs to prepare timber floor system drawings and documents using computers
  • FWPTMM3206 Interpret designs to prepare timber wall frame drawings and documents using computers

Job roles 

This qualification satisfies employment pathways for typical operational environments of timber truss and frame design, including:

  • Designer (Timber truss and frame)
  • Production fabricator (Timber truss and frame)

Licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements may apply to units in this qualification in some states & territories at the time of publication and may differ according to jurisdiction.

Some imported units in the elective bank may be subject to licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements. These units must be implemented in line with the licensing requirements outlined in the unit’s parent Training Package.

Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements for this qualification.

Packaging Rules

To achieve this qualification, competency must be demonstrated in:

  • 13 units of competency:
  • 5 core units plus
  • 8 elective units.

Elective units must ensure the integrity of the qualification’s Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) alignment and contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome. The electives are to be chosen as follows:

  • 8 units of competency from the elective groups A, B or C, the total of which can include up to 2 units recommended for packaging at Certificate II, Certificate III or Certificate IV in any endorsed Training Package or State/Territory accredited course

Elective units must be relevant to work undertaken in the timber truss and frame sector of the industry.
