Application
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop construction plans and specifications to meet prop requirements for productions in the screen, media, entertainment and events industries.
The unit applies to those who display a high level of initiative and judgement as they take a range of practical factors into account when planning the implementation of props designs.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1.Interpret designs |
1.1 Confirm scope and nature of prop requirements with required personnel 1.2 Identify which prop construction methods and techniques will lead to the best realisation of design concepts 1.3 Discuss potential practical construction problems with required personnel 1.4 Take account of potential solutions and develop creative responses to problems and limitations 1.5 Discuss and confirm construction requirements with required personnel |
2. Plan construction of props |
2.1 Consider production and performance issues that may impact on prop construction 2.2 Consider safety and regulatory issues that may impact on the way props can be used 2.3 Produce accurate specifications and drawings to a level of detail that guide the construction process 2.4 Identify materials, tools and equipment required to construct props and provide cost estimates as required |
3. Finalise prop construction plan |
3.1 Compile all information and drawings into final prop construction plans 3.2 Confirm that plans meet aesthetic requirements and provide an appropriate visual interpretation of props 3.3 Reach agreement on plans and communicate practical details for prop construction to relevant personnel in a timely fashion in order to meet deadlines and manage workflow efficiently |
