Application

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to integrate conceptual, technical and organisational skills to create a coherent body of work in any creative form.

The unit applies to individuals who are developing their professional practice, and who convey a well developed command of materials, process and technique, and strong conceptual and theoretical development in their completed work.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

  • Interprets complex and abstract information in different forms

  • Uses required terminology and cohesive language in format and style required for intended audience

  • Makes decisions using consultation with others

Initiative and enterprise

  • Determines and manages requirements, timeframe and cost of creative work
  • Determines and takes responsibility for addressing predictable conceptual and technical issues in familiar work contexts

Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:

  • create one coherent body of creative work that is technically and conceptually resolved and consistent with project concept.

In the course of the above, the candidate must:

  • evaluate ideas and options for work in response to research and analysis
  • select and refine ideas for application to own work using critical and creative thinking approaches and consultation with required personnel
  • finish body of work to professional standard using safe and sustainable work practices
  • monitor workflow against plan
  • evaluate efficiency and effectiveness of completed creative project process.

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of:

  • common research methodologies used by creative practitioners
  • influences on chosen area of work in historical and contemporary contexts
  • critical and creative thinking techniques used in creative practice
  • relationships between technique, materials and process in creative form described in performance evidence
  • basic project management techniques, including work planning, time management and resource management
  • considerations required for determining scope, objectives and timeframes of creative work
  • common problems occurring when producing body of creative work, and how to avoid or resolve them
  • options for documenting and recording work, including the type and amount of information to include
  • copyright and intellectual property issues and legislation associated with professional creative practice, including how to identify requirements related to self-promotion
  • sustainability issues for tools and materials used in chosen creative form
  • organisational and legislative work health and safety requirements relating to chosen creative form.

Assessment Conditions

Skills in this unit must be demonstrated in a workplace or simulated environment where the conditions are typical of those in a working environment in this industry.

This includes access to:

  • resources for producing creative work, including work space, tools, equipment and materials
  • studio and workshop facilities.

Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
