Application

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to establish goals for own professional practice and to determine how one’s practice can be developed in a sustainable way, taking account of all aspects of sustainability – individual, social, environmental and economic.

It applies to individuals who must consider the sustainability of their practice in any sector or area of expertise.

No licensing, legislative or certification conditions apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Evidence of the ability to:

  • research and collaborate with informed others to identify development ideas and issues relevant to own practice
  • develop realistic goals for own practice based on research and review
  • identify opportunities to enhance sustainability in own practice and implement strategies to harness them
  • develop and implement professional development activities that enhance the sustainability of own practice.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

Knowledge Evidence

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

  • outline the professional context for a given area of practice in terms of opportunities and constraints
  • describe how the following factors affect contemporary practice:
  • buying trends
  • economic considerations
  • impacts of technology on practice
  • lifestyle trends
  • location of practice
  • social issues
  • intellectual property considerations
  • summarise the tools, techniques and strategies used by practitioners to build sustainable practice
  • explain key aspects of individual, social, economic, environmental sustainability, and how they impact on a particular area of practice.

Assessment Conditions

Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to:

  • sources of information.

Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
