Application

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to select, organise and prepare creative work for display or exhibition.

The unit applies to those who might work as exhibition venue staff, or those who work independently assisting the preparation of works for exhibition in galleries or other spaces, including virtual spaces. Exhibitions may take place in many different contexts and environments across both business and community contexts. They may be temporary or permanent in nature.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:

  • submit at least five creative works for display or exhibition within agreed timeframe.

In the course of the above, the candidate must:

  • select creative work for display or exhibition consistent with criteria
  • assess own performance in at least one discussion with others
  • apply work health and safety practices
  • prepare selected work for display or exhibition using required techniques
  • check completeness of submitted work, confirming elements are present and display or exhibition requirements are met.

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of:

  • exhibition, display or presentation and practice requirements for chosen creative work and context
  • techniques for displaying or exhibiting work related to own area of creative practice, including those related to work health and safety and sustainability requirements
  • spatial planning for physical and virtual display or exhibition purposes.

Assessment Conditions

Skills in this unit must be demonstrated in a workplace or simulated environment where the conditions are typical of those in a working environment in this industry.

This includes access to:

  • selection of works for display or exhibition
  • tools, material and technologies used to prepare works for display or exhibition.

Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
