Application

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to maintain creative arts industry knowledge and monitor and manage own professional practice. This includes applying industry knowledge to research-based work activities, when interacting with others, and when engaging in professional practice in the music industry.

The unit applies to those who have advanced research and analysis skills working as practitioners, administrators or managers. They could be working in the public or private sector in a variety of contexts.

No licensing, legislative or certification conditions apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Research creative arts industry information relevant to own practice

1.5 Analyse and evaluate accuracy, currency and credibility of information sources and confirm that research scope is in line with requirements of own professional practice

2. Establish and maintain industry networks that support own practice

2.1 Participate in professional industry bodies and associations and seek opportunities to expand on and update industry knowledge

2.3 Network with industry contacts and confirm currency and credibility of industry knowledge

2.4 Record details of networking activities and benefits gained from participation

3. Apply knowledge to own professional practice

  • Uses planning and organisational processes to source and evaluate information, build networks and manage communication

Technology

  • Uses technology when undertaking research tasks

Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:

  • access industry networks and apply industry knowledge to two different research-based tasks.
  • identify and participate in at least two different professional development activities.

In the course of the above, the candidate must:

  • research, analyse and apply industry information
  • document detailed industry information and its sources
  • record networking activities used to maintain and enhance industry knowledge.

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of:

  • elements of creative arts industry sector required in performance evidence, including:
  • industry structure and operation
  • employment obligations and opportunities
  • laws and regulations
  • industry bodies and associations
  • industry protocols
  • trends and emerging technologies
  • sources of information on the creative arts industry
  • accepted communication and networking strategies that can be applied to maintaining professional networks
  • methods for evaluating accuracy, currency and credibility of information sources
  • methods for maintaining current industry knowledge.

Assessment Conditions

Skills in this unit must be demonstrated in a workplace or simulated environment where the conditions are typical of those in a working environment in this industry.

This includes access to:

  • creative arts industry information sources and materials required to demonstrate the performance evidence
  • technology required for researching and analysing industry.

Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
