Application
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to refine digital media techniques and to develop own digital art style in a body of creative work. It involves researching different digital media ideas and techniques, selecting a technique to refine and consolidating the skills associated with this technique through the development of a body of work. This occurs through a process of research, refinement and evaluation, and encompasses animation, video and sound production.
The unit applies to those whose professional practice includes the creation of digital media works. Work could be completely digital or an integration of digital and traditional media.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Performance Evidence
The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:
- create at least two different pieces of professional digital media work.
In the course of the above, the candidate must:
- research and evaluate digital media techniques that can be applied to own style
- evolve and refine use of digital media techniques through experimentation and document how experiments have informed own work
- produce digital artwork that demonstrates developing expertise and individual style and shows a command of selected digital media techniques
- evaluate own performance and techniques and identify one or more opportunities for own creative practice.
Knowledge Evidence
The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of:
- relationship between digital media technique, particular effects and ideas in the work of applicable artists and in the context of own practice
- different information sources that support research in digital media techniques
- historical and contemporary influences applicable to refining digital art techniques
- intellectual property considerations applicable to producing digital media works
- key safety requirements for digital media work.
Assessment Conditions
Skills in this unit must be demonstrated in a workplace or simulated environment where the conditions are typical of those in a working environment in this industry.
This includes access to:
- equipment, materials and tools to produce digital media work
- applicable information sources.
Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
