Application

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to prepare, record and replay material for transmission in line with technical standards and production requirements. Individuals ensure recording is set up correctly, access feeds and receive incoming signals, record content, and manage transmissions.

The unit applies to those who maintain the technical quality of vision and audio signals that go to air. Even though they may work directly under a supervisor, they frequently carry a high level of responsibility for their own activities and can be responsible for supervising others.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Unit Sector

Media and entertainment production – Broadcasting

3.1 Access required feeds for recording content and patch to applicable equipment in liaison with master control

3.2 Identify or record content to be transmitted in line with production requirements

3.3 Arrange ingestion of pre-recorded content and insert time codes

3.4 Connect equipment and switch feeds according to production requirements

3.5 Monitor and adjust quality of vision and audio feeds in line with organisational standards in collaboration with required personnel

3.6 Set time code types and synchronise with other equipment according to production requirements

3.7 Complete production and transmission operations and store materials according to file management standards

4. Replay for transmission and production

4.1 Nominate replay segments and ensure segments correctly identified and stored according to organisational standards

4.2 Cue tapes and recordings according to production requirements

4.3 Set replay parameters and replay as directed

4.4 Monitor and adjust incoming and outgoing signals according to organisational standards

5. Finalise operations

5.1 Dub duplicate recordings on designated media format and back-up or archive copies

5.2 Check condition of equipment, arrange for repair of faults and leave workplace in original or improved state

5.3 Review and reflect on performance and note areas for improvement
