Qualification Description

This qualification reflects the role of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people who are developing different art skills in an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Cultural arts context and who take responsibility for own outputs in work and learning. Practice at this level is underpinned by the application of introductory art theory and cultural history. The outcomes of this qualification apply to work in cultural arts environments within Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities.

The job roles that relate to this qualification may include Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Community Arts Centre Assistant, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Ceramics Studio Assistant, and Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Artist. It also provides a pathway to other Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander arts, craft and design roles.

Total number of units = 12

5 core units  plus

7 elective units , of which:

  • 5 must be from Group A
  • 2 may be from Group A and/or B electives and/or any currently endorsed training package qualification or accredited course.

Elective units must be relevant to the work environment and the qualification, maintain the overall integrity of the AQF alignment, not duplicate the outcome of another unit chosen for the qualification, and contribute to a valid industry-supported vocational outcome.
