Elements describe the essential outcomes.
|
Performance criteria describe what needs to be done to demonstrate achievement of the element.
|
1. Obtain measurements.
|
1.1 Select and apply method of obtaining measurements required to meet construction task requirements.
1.2 Select measuring and calculating equipment, check for serviceability and rectify or report any faults.
1.3 Obtain and record linear measurements using a rule, tape or other measuring equipment accurate to 1 mm.
|
2. Perform calculations.
|
2.1 Determine appropriate calculation factors, and select correct formula and method for achieving required result.
2.2 Calculate, confirm and record material quantities using appropriate factors.
2.3 Calculate, confirm and record areas and volumes using appropriate factors.
|

Performance Evidence
To demonstrate competency in this unit, a person must carry out measurements and calculations for three different construction projects, including those required for:
- perimeter
- circumference
- area
- volume
- ratio
- percentage
- converting metres to millimetres and millimetres to metres.
In doing this, the person must meet the performance criteria for this unit.
Knowledge Evidence
To be competent in this unit, a person must demonstrate knowledge of:
- construction industry requirements for carrying out measurements and calculations
- uses and applications of measuring and calculating equipment in the construction industry, including:
- laser equipment
- rulers
- tape measures
- trundle wheels
- electronic calculators
- computer-based and online calculators
- formulae and methods for calculating:
- perimeter
- circumference
- area
- volume
- ratio
- percentage
- formulae and methods for conversion of metres to millimetres and millimetres to metres.
Assessment Conditions
Assessors must satisfy the requirements for assessors contained in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations.
Assessment of performance must be undertaken in the workplace or in a simulated workplace environment. Tasks are to be performed to the level of proficiency and within the time limits expected in a workplace.
Assessors are responsible for ensuring that the person demonstrating competency has access to:
- specifications for calculations for construction industry projects
- measuring and calculating equipment currently used in industry.
