Application
This unit of competency specifies the skills and knowledge required to plan and implement effective environmental practices and processes and manage improvements of environmental issues. It includes determining and managing energy efficient systems, measuring and dealing with non-conforming practices and improving performance.
This unit of competency applies to builders, senior managers and other construction industry professionals responsible for developing effective environmental management plans and strategies to reduce environmental risk on building and construction projects.
Completion of the general construction induction training program specified by the model Code of Practice for Construction Work is required for any person who is to carry out construction work. Achievement of CPCCWHS1001Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Analyse the potential impact on the organisation of current shifts in environmental legislation or regulations. |

Determine current environmental management performance using best practice and benchmarking methods. |

Analyse project requirements in relation to environmental obligations. |

Prepare an environmental management plan using available information. |

Seek senior management advice concerning implementation of the plan as required. |

Inform staff and contractors of their obligations to comply with the environmental plan. |

Monitor organisational legal obligations. |

Manage organisational feedback systems to assist with conformance of the plan. |

Seek regular feedback concerning the operations of the environmental management plan to assist the organisation to meet its legal obligations. |

Manage and maintain legally required auditing practices to ensure probity and accountability towards legislative requirements. |

Maintain contact with contractors and monitor their compliance with environmental management requirements. |

Implement emergency and remediation response strategies as necessary to assist compliance with the environmental management plan. |

Review environmental management plan. |

Review environmental management plan to identify areas that need actioning or improvement. |

Introduce measures to encourage staff to suggest innovations to improve the performance of the environmental management plan. |

Redraft plans to include improvements or address deficiencies found during the review process. |

Submit revised plans for endorsement by senior management and implement reviewed procedures. |

As well as the foundation skills explicit in the performance criteria of this unit, candidates require:
