Qualification Description
This qualification reflects the role of educators who are responsible for the day-to-day running of a regulated school age education and care service in Australia. They plan, implement and manage programs across all areas of service operations. They use specialised knowledge and analyse and apply theoretical concepts to diverse work situations. Educators have responsibility for the supervision of volunteers and/or other staff.
Educators in this context work in outside school hours care and vacation care.
To achieve this qualification the individual must have completed a total of at least 280 hours of work with school age children in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia. The total number of hours may be applied collectively across all units of competency that include a requirement for workplace hours.
No national occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.
State and territory jurisdictions may have specific regulatory requirements regarding qualifications for school age care educators.

Packaging Rules
Total number of units = 23
- 15 core units
- 8 elective units, consisting of:
- at least 5 units from the list below
- up to 3 units from the electives listed below, elsewhere in the CHC Community Services Training Package, or any current Training Package or accredited course.
The selection of electives chosen must be guided by the job outcome sought, local sector requirements and the complexity of skills appropriate to the AQF level of this qualification.
