Performance Criteria

Elements describe the essential outcomes

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element.

1. Prepare for work

1.1 Identify vehicle service requirements from work orders

1.2 Select tools, equipment and materials relevant to vehicle service requirements

1.3 Check all selected tools, equipment and materials to ensure they are in good working order to meet job requirements

2. Select and use lubricants and fluids

2.1 Select and match lubricants and fluids to vehicle specifications, according to lubrication and fluid data sheets

2.2 Use lubricants and fluids on the identified parts

2.3 Fill reservoirs and mechanical assemblies to specified levels

3. Bleed air and hydraulic systems

3.1 Identify bleeding points for air and hydraulic systems from specification sheets

3.2 Bleed air and hydraulic systems according to workplace procedures and manufacturer specifications

4. Complete work processes

4.1 Identify and report faults to appropriate personnel

4.2 Clean and maintain tools, equipment and work area, identifying, tagging and reporting faulty equipment according to workplace procedures

4.3 Dispose of waste and used materials, ensuring they are disposed of, reused or recycled according to workplace procedures and product specifications

4.4 Complete service checklists and workplace material lists according to workplace procedures

Performance Evidence

Before competency can be determined, individuals must have competently serviced vehicles after assembly on a minimum of two occasions.

Individuals must demonstrate they can:

  • follow workplace procedures and work health and safety (WHS) requirements when servicing vehicles after assembly
  • read and interpret job sheets and specification sheets
  • locate and identify vehicle service schedules and information
  • select and use appropriate lubricants, greases and special fluids, including:
  • greases
  • oils
  • special fluids.
  • service and bleed air and hydraulic systems and components using safe work practices
  • select and use service tools and equipment
  • dispose of waste and used materials appropriately, and reuse or recycle where appropriate
  • maintain and complete workplace records

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements and performance criteria of this unit. This includes:

  • types and location of vehicle systems that require after assembly servicing, including:
  • types of air and hydraulic systems
  • types and function of reservoirs and mechanical assemblies that require filling with fluids and lubricants
  • procedures for servicing vehicle systems, including:
  • WHS and environmental procedures for servicing vehicles after assembly
  • types and layout of vehicle servicing schedules
  • types and characteristics of lubricants, greases and fluids
  • servicing equipment operating procedures
  • methods for identifying faults when filling reservoirs and mechanical assemblies, and bleeding air and hydraulic systems
  • procedures for completing servicing documentation.

Assessment Conditions

Assessors must satisfy SNR/AQTF assessor requirements.

Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting.

Where assessment of competency includes third-party evidence, individuals must provide evidence that links them to the vehicles that they have serviced after assembly, e.g. servicing work sheets.

Assessors must verify performance evidence through questioning on skills and knowledge to ensure correct interpretation and application.

The following resources must be made available:

  • automotive manufacturing workplace or simulated workplace
  • vehicles requiring after assembly servicing
  • workplace procedures relating to servicing vehicles after assembly
  • WHS equipment relevant to servicing vehicles after assembly
  • vehicle after assembly servicing specifications
  • tools, equipment, lubricants, fluids and machinery required for the after assembly service of vehicles
  • vehicle after assembly servicing work sheets.
