It involves the application of skills and knowledge at a technician level.

1. Prepare for inspection

1.1 Identify workplace materials and equipment required for inspection processes

1.2 Identify, tag and report damaged or unserviceable equipment

1.3 Identify and apply workplace instructions and quality guidelines

2. Inspect work

2.1 Identify and apply job specification, work order, inspection processes and quality standards

2.2 Undertake workplace inspection processes against work quality goals

2.3 Identify and follow work health and safety (WHS) requirements

2.4 Apply workplace quality standards when conducting inspections, according to workplace procedures

2.5 Protect workplace materials and equipment against damage during inspection, according to workplace instructions and quality guidelines

3. Complete work processes

3.1 Inspect completed work to ensure quality outcomes against job specifications, and the achievement of customer requirements

3.2 Complete and report work sheets and quality reports

Performance Evidence

Before competency can be determined, individuals must have competently inspected completed work to ensure quality standards have been met on a minimum of two occasions.

Individuals must demonstrate they can:

  • follow workplace procedures when inspecting work against quality goals, including:
  • identification and elimination of defects
  • attention to job specifications and tolerances
  • efficient production times.
  • conduct workplace technical quality inspections in line with established quality standards
  • protect workplace equipment and property during quality inspections
  • complete workplace quality documentation.

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements and performance criteria of this unit. This includes:

  • work health and safety (WHS) requirements for conducting workplace inspections
  • procedures to determine if completed vehicle production work meets job specifications and production schedule
  • indicators of technical quality standards and processes for establishing them
  • work inspection procedures, including:
  • observation techniques
  • non-destructive testing
  • types and applications of quality reports.

Assessment Conditions

Assessors must satisfy SNR/AQTF assessor requirements.

Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting.

Where assessment of competency includes third-party evidence, individuals must provide evidence that demonstrates that they have inspected completed work to ensure workplace quality standards have been met, e.g. inspection work sheets.

Assessors must verify performance evidence through questioning on skills and knowledge to ensure correct interpretation and application.

The following resources must be made available:

  • manufacturing workplace or simulated workplace
  • finished manufactured components requiring quality inspection
  • tools, equipment and machinery required for quality inspection process
  • workplace quality standards relating to the work to be quality inspected
  • workplace procedures relating to conducting quality inspections of completed work
  • workplace documentation related to performing and recording quality inspections.
