Performance Evidence

Before competency can be determined, individuals must have competently prepared and operated tools, equipment and machinery in an automotive environment on a minimum of two occasions.

Individuals must demonstrate they can:

  • observe workplace procedures relating to the use of the tools, equipment and machinery
  • select, check and prepare tools, equipment and machinery, including:
  • assembly equipment
  • fastening equipment
  • hand tools
  • power tools.
  • operate tools, equipment and machinery according to manufacturer procedures and workplace health and safety (WHS) requirements
  • identify, tag and report faults with the tools, equipment and machinery
  • store tools and equipment, and shut down machinery
  • clean work area and maintain tools, equipment and machinery.

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements and performance criteria of this unit. This includes:

  • work health and safety requirements relating to the use of the tools, equipment and machinery
  • personal protective equipment relevant to the tools, equipment and machinery used
  • original equipment manufacturer operating instructions
  • types, characteristics, uses and limitations of automotive tools, equipment and machinery
  • handling, storage and maintenance procedures for tools, equipment and machinery
  • procedures for recording and reporting faults with tools, equipment and machinery

Assessment Conditions

Assessors must satisfy SNR/AQTF assessor requirements.

Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting.

Where assessment of competency includes third-party evidence, individuals must provide evidence that links them to reports on faulty tools, equipment and machinery.

Assessors must verify performance evidence through questioning on skills and knowledge to ensure correct interpretation and application.

The following resources must be made available:

  • automotive workplace or simulated workplace
  • tools, equipment and machinery required for work processes
  • operating procedures for tools, equipment and machinery.
