Performance Criteria

Elements describe the essential outcomes

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element. Where bold italicised text is used, further information is detailed in the range of conditions section

1. Plan inspection and tests

1.1 Work order and specifications are reviewed and inspection and test requirements determined

1.2 Inspection and test procedures are identified and confirmed

1.3 Inspection test tools and equipment are selected and checked

2. Conduct inspections and tests

2.1 Vehicles, components and systems are inspected and tested for functional operation to ensure specifications, tolerances and workplace standards are met

2.2 Surfaces are inspected and tested against job specifications and workplace quality standards

2.3 Inspection is completed according to workplace procedures

3. Identify faults

3.1 Vehicles, components and systems not meeting job specifications and workplace quality standards are identified

3.2 Faults are labelled according to workplace procedures

4. Record and report findings

4.1 Appropriate workplace forms are selected for recording faults

4.2 Job sheets and work orders are completed according to workplace procedures

4.3 Inspection and testing results are reported to appropriate personnel

Foundation Skills

This section describes those language, literacy, numeracy and employment skills that are essential to performance.

Skills

Description

Reading skills to:

  • identify work health and safety (WHS) requirements and workplace procedures relating to inspection and testing
  • interpret job specifications and tolerances
  • interpret workplace forms.

Writing skills to:

  • legibly label faults
  • complete job sheets and work orders.

Numeracy skills to:

  • inspect and test vehicles, components and systems and compare findings to specifications.

Range of Conditions

This section specifies work environments and conditions that may affect performance. Essential operating conditions that may be present (depending on the work situation, needs of the candidate, accessibility of the item, and local industry and regional contexts) are included. Bold italicised wording, if used in the performance criteria, is detailed below.

Workplace procedures  must include:

  • inspection and testing of vehicles, components and systems
  • identifying faults
  • pre- and post-use inspection of equipment

Unit updated to reflect the new standards for Training Packages

Replaces AUMATA3002 Conduct final inspections and functional tests

Performance Evidence

Before competency can be determined, individuals must have competently conducted post-production inspection and tests of vehicles, components and systems on a minimum of three occasions.

Individuals must demonstrate they can:

  • observe work health and safety (WHS) requirements when inspecting and testing post-production vehicles, components and systems
  • apply workplace procedures for inspecting and testing vehicles, components and systems
  • select suitable inspection methods and techniques
  • conduct post-production inspections and tests, identifying non-conformances
  • clearly and legibly communicate inspection and test results
  • complete workplace inspection and test documentation.

Knowledge Evidence

Individuals must be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

  • types and application of post-production inspection and testing procedures
  • workplace quality standards relating to post-production vehicles, components and systems, including types, purpose and operation of test equipment
  • workplace procedures and documentation for inspecting and testing vehicles, components and systems
  • WHS requirements when inspecting and testing vehicles, components and systems
  • test equipment and test materials.

Assessment Conditions

Assessors must satisfy SNR/AQTF assessor requirements.

Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting.

Where assessment of competency includes third-party evidence, individuals must provide evidence that links them to the vehicles that they have worked on, e.g. inspection reports.

Assessors must verify performance evidence through questioning on skills and knowledge to ensure correct interpretation and application.

The following resources must be made available:

  • automotive manufacturing workplace or simulated workplace
  • tools, equipment and machinery required to inspect and test vehicles, components and systems
  • vehicles, components and systems that require inspecting and testing
  • WHS requirements relating to inspecting and testing vehicles, components and systems
  • work sheets, work orders and job specifications relating to post-production inspections and tests
  • workplace procedures relating to inspecting and testing vehicles, components and systems.
